Graduate study in psychology

Nearly half of all American adults will struggle with a mental health condition sometime during their lives and there is an urgent need for psychological services.  The job market for clinical psychologists is forecasted to be strong for years to come. 

Applying to work with Dr. Gunstad

Students advised by Dr. Gunstad work toward a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with a focus on Adult Clinical.  Research focus is open and students with interest in any of the topics being examined through the Student Life Study or HERO Initiative are encouraged to apply.   Possible topics include:

  • mental health conditions including depression and anxiety

  • risk and protective factors for mental health outcomes

  • coping

  • health behaviors like diet, exercise, and substance use

  • resilience

  • Many others

What about clinical neuropsychology or sport psychology?

We no longer offer graduate training in these specialty areas.  A list of programs offering training in clinical neuropsychology can be found at the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology and sport psychology at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
